Learn to paint with wool! In this online class, you will learn everything you need to know to get started creating beautiful needle-felted paintings. In part one of the course, you will learn about wool types, tools, supplies, essential techniques, design transfer methods, how to blend wool and make new colors, and image editing. In part two, I will demo how to make a felted landscape. Students will learn to use color, size, and value to create depth, blend wools to create a gradated sky with puffy clouds, and integrate fine details to create reflections and ripples in water. I will discuss how to use a grayscale and value finder to choose values that add depth and dimension to a felted landscape. We will conclude with a discussion of framing.

This easy-to-access class includes 138 minutes of video. Once you purchase the class, you will receive access to three downloadable documents. One document contains multiple web links to the class videos. The second is a simple line drawing of the landscape I will demo. The third is a picture of my art. You may use it as a reference photo to create your landscape or use a reference photo of your own. You will want to save the document with the web links in a secure location that you will remember. This is how you will access the videos. You will not need to create a special account to see the videos. You will click on the web links provided in the document.

This class is beginner-friendly. It is suitable for those who wish to take their felting skills to the next level. You will have access to this course for one year from the date of purchase.

The videos do not contain closed captioning.

A kit is not included. This is an online course only.

I am a teacher and a professional artist. My work is sold in galleries and at shows. I have been teaching art and sociology for many years. I love to share the joy of felting with my students!

You will need:

A felting mat

Highly recommended, but not required: Needle felting tool holding multiple needles. If you are going to buy just one, I recommend the Clover “pen” style. It holds three needles.

Felting needles. My go-to needles are 38 gauge.

Short fiber wool (carded New Zealand wool, Merino batting, or my bulky carded Corriedale) in landscape colors. I cover types of wool in depth in the class.

A piece of wool felt in a light color so you can trace out your design with a marker or gel pen. Alternatively, you can draw on sulky solvy. We will review this in the course.

To watch the streaming videos, you will need:
